Matariki - A New Year! Akina te Reo!
Kia ora tātau,
Happy Matariki! and welcome to new friends! It's been a while since our last newsletter and so much has happened. Toni has been supporting a number of important kaupapa whilst preparing for the upcoming performances we've listed below. But the big news is that a new music video is in the works for the waiata Mohaka, from Toni's latest EP Kahungunu Maranga. A big kia ora goes out to NZ On Air for funding another Toni Huata music video - that's two years in a row. Hopukia te tao generated such a buzz last year so the pressure is on to visually honour the lyricism of Mohaka, especially as Toni's grandfather Te Okanga (Aussie) Huata, composed the waiata in memory of his mother Ropine Huata nee Aranui. With these many opportunities to connect to Toni's home region of Ngāti Kahungunu, we would also like to thank Te Mangai Pāho and Mā te Reo - Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori for their continued support. Ngā mihi aroha ki a koutou.
Whānau, there are so many great events coming up so enjoy! and as always - thanks for your support! Have a great Matariki, and upcoming Te Wiki o te Reo Māori everyone.
Ngā mihi maioha ki a koutou katoa...mauri ora.
